Service Broking
Service Broking
Service Broking is the a way of composing telecoms services by blending together a number of existing services. The building-block services remain unchanged and do not "know" they are cooperating. Service Broking is also commonly called Service Capability Interaction Management (SCIM) in IMS.
The OpenCloud Service Interaction Server (SIS) provides service broking and service interaction functionality for both SS7 and IMS networks and protocols such as INAP, CAMEL and SIP. The OpenCloud SIS is a very powerful, flexible, and extendable, script-driven service-interaction platform that is part of the OpenCloud Rhino product suite.
Service Layer engineers write new service interaction scripts using a graphical user interface (GUI). The SIS capabilities allow operators to create and deploy multiple services in response to a single triggering event from the network, for example, combining a set of flexible charging packages with community oriented services such as VPNs.
Typical operator use cases for the SIS might be adding pre-paid to IN services such as VPNs with or blending together a number of IN services such as Home Zone with VPNs.
Commonly these combinations are:
- VPN + Prepaid
- Home Zone + VPN + Prepaid
- Notify Me + Prepaid
- Double number + Prepaid
Another set of use cases for the SIS are where packet switched and circuit switched networks co-exist. Commonly the requirements are for:
- Eliminating inefficiencies with “tromboning” of calls between PS and CS networks.
- Re-use of IN services for IMS terminals (protocol translation)
- Re-use of IMS services for CS terminals (protocol translation)
- Blending “hosted PBX” with IN Prepaid (e.g. pre-pay enable Broadsoft)
New blended services such as these are created by intercepting and controlling the interaction between a previously disparate set of services; the interaction taking place between the network and the service hosting layer.
Combinations or mash-ups of ‘smart’ next generation and traditional telecom services create enhanced services. With increased customer personalisation and the direct integration and interaction of speech, text, messaging and data services operators are able to add significant value to their customers.
