Subsystem
The IP Multimedia subsystem (IMS) architectural blueprint identifies a number of capabilities at the telecommunications network service layer. The main ones are:
- SIP Application Server
- Service Capability Interaction Manager (IMS SCIM)
- Service Switching Function (IM-SSF)
- IMS Gateway Function(IMS-GWF)
SIP Application Server
OpenCloud Rhino Application Server provides a complete SIP Application Server environment that meets the needs of the IMS. In addition to SIP, it provides access to the Diameter real-time charging protocol so that any services can also be charged. In addition, it provides access to media servers and SS7-based networks.
Service Capability Interaction Manager (IMS SCIM)
OpenCloud Rhino Service Interaction Server provides a fully-functional IMS SCIM capability. The graphical composition capabilities mean that new services can be created by network engineers without recourse to software engineering. Rhino SIS also enables SS7, Web and hybrid (mixed SS7, Web & IP) services to be created.
Service Switching Function (IM-SSF)
OpenCloud Rhino Service Interaction Server provides an IMS SIP to SS7 translator capability. This enables IMS services to access and use the capabilities of the SS7 network. Rhino SIS also provides the reverse capability - namely, SS7 services can access and use the facilities of the IMS IP network.
IMS Gateway Function(IMS-GWF)
Rhino Charging Sentinel provides a fully-functional implementation of the IMS-GWF. It enables implementation of a split session control and Online Charging System (OCS) architecture. It supports proprietary real-time OCS charging protocols as well as Diameter. Like all OpenCloud products, it provides support for both IP and SS7-based networks.
